I decided to book a last minute trip to Oslo in Norway the day after my exams finished. Having never been abroad on my own it was a bit nerve-racking but has to be one of the bet things I've done to this day!
I stayed in a hostel in central Oslo and became friends with many of the other backpackers. One of which we planned to go to the ski museums together - Holmenkollen and Vinterpark. The Holmenkollen museum was at the olympics ski slope.
There was a simulator there to give you the sensation of jumping down the slope as it was not open to the public. The museum had much of the history of ski wear and gear as well as the process of building the jump tower. We were allowed to visit the top of the jump via a lift which gave us great views. Once on top of the tower you could see the beautiful Nordic terrain and wooden lodges between forest trees. You could also see the true height of the ski jump. The Holmenkollen is made from 1000 tonnes of steel and has a length of 96.95m from start to end.
